According to Mongolian media, this citizen will be held in a detention center in Chita for a month on suspicion of espionage activities.
Ts. Ganbold, who works as an electrician, lives with his wife at the Ulkhan checkpoint, located 50 kilometers from his native sum. In addition to herding livestock, he has worked in this position for over a year.
Every week he crosses the Ulkhan checkpoint to buy food and necessary items. On February 10, in preparation for the Tsagaan Sar holiday, he was detained by Russian law enforcement agencies. According to Russian authorities, they are "investigating possible acts of espionage," and Ganbold will be under investigation for a month.
M. Battulga, the governor of the Bayan-Uul sum, commented on the situation: "Our citizen was arrested in Russia on suspicion of espionage. He is being held in a detention center in Chita. This person has never worked in government structures; his activities are limited to working as an electrician. His detention occurred shortly before the Tsagaan Sar holiday. Ganbold's family visited Russia and met with the investigator, but they were not provided with specific information about the espionage charges. They have contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for assistance."
