Gianni Infantino, the head of FIFA, commented on the current situation in Mexico in the context of the upcoming 2026 World Cup. In light of recent armed conflicts in the country, concerns regarding the safety of the tournament events have increased.

According to Infantino, "the situation has stabilized, and everything is currently under control. We expect the tournament to proceed without any incidents," reports the Spanish publication AS.

The international community has expressed concern over a large-scale operation by the Mexican armed forces, which resulted in the death of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as El Mencho, the leader of one of the country's most influential drug cartels. This event triggered a series of clashes between militants and law enforcement agencies. Despite the successful actions of the authorities, who managed to localize the main hotspots of violence, some states still have an enhanced patrol regime in place.

It should be noted that the World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19, 2026, in three countries: the USA, Canada, and Mexico. In Mexico, matches of the tournament will be held in cities such as Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara, where 13 matches are planned, including key events at the famous Azteca Stadium.
