The European Parliament approved a loan to Ukraine for €90 billion

The European Parliament has decided to allocate a loan of €90 billion to Ukraine for the years 2026-2027. This decision was supported by 458 deputies, while 140 voted against, reports AFP.

The vote was the final step for the approval of this loan within the European Parliament.
Leaders of European Union countries reached an agreement to provide an interest-free loan to Ukraine in December 2025. The loan will be financed through borrowing on capital markets and secured by the EU budget, without using Russian assets, which was initially planned. Repayment of the loan will occur if Russia pays reparations to Ukraine. The funds will be divided into two parts: €60 billion is intended for military purchases, while €30 billion is for supporting the country's budget. The first tranche is expected to be sent to Kyiv in early the second quarter of 2026.
