In 2025, 125 employees of electric networks were dismissed and brought to criminal responsibility as a result of inspections that revealed serious deficiencies in providing electricity to the population. This was reported by Jomi Umarzoda, a representative of the Open Joint Stock Company "Distribution Electric Networks".

Umarzoda noted that this year criminal cases were initiated against the mentioned employees, and they were suspended from their positions. Some cases are under investigation, and additional information will be provided upon completion of this procedure.

According to data presented on February 4 by the State Energy Supervision Agency under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, last year, 406 employees in the energy supply sector were fined a total of 293,000 somoni for violations related to electricity consumption. Of these, 375 employees belong to the Open Joint Stock Company "Distribution Electric Networks", 12 to the Open Joint Stock Company "Transmission Electric Networks", 9 to the company "Barki Tojik", and 10 to "Pamir Energy".

The agency indicated that fines were imposed based on articles 394 and 397 of the Code of Administrative Offenses, concerning violations of the rules for the operation of energy resources and equipment.

It was previously reported that in 2025, employees of the Open Joint Stock Company "Distribution Electric Networks" were found guilty of inflating electricity consumption by nearly 321.5 million kWh, resulting in losses to the state budget amounting to 106.4 million somoni.

However, it was not specified how many employees committed such inflations and how many of them faced punishment.

The State Energy Supervision Agency has repeatedly reported on the detention of electric network employees for electricity theft. In particular, in January of this year, two cases of unauthorized connections of power lines to residential buildings were recorded, for which employees were fined 2,250 somoni.

The "hunt" for electricity violators has intensified following the tightening of penalties for illegal consumption and evasion of payment.

According to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan, violations of electricity usage rules and evasion of payment are punishable by fines ranging from 27,000 to 90,000 somoni or imprisonment for a term of 3 to 10 years. Administrative fines for electricity theft have also been increased.
