Israel or Russia? NSA recorded a conversation between foreign intelligence and Trump’s inner circle

The head of the agency prohibited sharing intercepted data

Last year, the U.S. National Security Agency recorded an unusual phone call. It involved representatives of foreign intelligence and a person from the inner circle of President Donald Trump, as reported by the Guardian. The information was provided by the lawyer of the informant who has access to intelligence data.

These details turned out to be extremely sensitive and caused significant resonance in Washington over the past week. The data was passed to the U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, TRT reports.

According to lawyer Andrew Bakai, Gabbard prohibited NSA employees from disseminating the information. She handed a paper version of the intelligence data to the head of the president's administration, Suzy Wails.

The day after the meeting with Wails, Gabbard instructed the NSA not to publish this information and to send it directly to her office. This information was also voiced by Bakai.

Previously, the details of Gabbard's interaction with the NSA had not been disclosed, but they are now known thanks to the information provided to the Guardian.

Initially, Bakai claimed that the conversation took place in the spring of 2025, concerning contact between a foreign intelligence representative and someone familiar with Trump. However, he later admitted that he had made a mistake.

“The NSA intercepted a phone call between two members of foreign intelligence, which involved a person close to the Trump administration,” Bakai stated.

He added that “the NSA does not surveil individuals without cause.”

According to a source familiar with the situation, the person from Trump’s circle does not hold an official position in the U.S. administration and is not a special government employee.

Bakai also mentioned that representatives of the intelligence community often seek his legal assistance, citing his experience working in the CIA's Office of Inspector General.

A spokesperson for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence commented to the Guardian: “This information is not accurate. All actions taken by Director Gabbard were fully within her legal authority, and such politically motivated attempts to manipulate classified information undermine the important national security work that dedicated Americans in the intelligence community perform every day.”
