The ruling party of Japan has achieved a record constitutional majority in the lower house of parliament

The LDP managed to secure 316 seats out of a possible 465, as reported by the Japanese public broadcaster NHK. Previously, the party held 198 mandates in the lower house of parliament.

The LDP's coalition partner, the Innovation Party, also improved its position, gaining 36 mandates.

With this victory, the LDP surpassed the two-thirds threshold (310 seats), allowing it to reconsider bills that were rejected by the upper house, where the coalition does not hold a majority, as well as initiate changes to the Constitution.

The opposition parties, Komeito and the Constitutional Democratic Party, significantly reduced their presence: before the elections, they held 172 seats, but following the voting, their number decreased to 49.

After the exit poll results were announced, Sanae Takaichi noted that she does not plan to change the composition of the government. "Our cabinet has been in existence for just over three months. All the ministers are those I trust. They are working hard, and I do not intend to make changes," the prime minister's words are quoted by the EFE agency.

According to NHK, this is the first time since World War II that one party has managed to obtain more than two-thirds of the seats in the lower house of the Japanese parliament.
