The returned soldiers from Russia are currently in Belarus, where they are receiving necessary medical and psychological support. After this, they will be sent to Russia for further treatment and rehabilitation.
According to information from the Ministry of Defense, the exchange was organized with the mediation of the United Arab Emirates and the United States of America. The parties reached an agreement to conduct the exchange during meetings of delegations from Russia, Ukraine, and the USA in Abu Dhabi, which took place on February 4 and 5. The American side characterized these consultations as productive. The first round of negotiations took place earlier, on January 23 and 24.
U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff previously announced this exchange, noting that a total of 314 captives would be exchanged — this will be the first such event in the last five months.
On the eve, following the first day of negotiations, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated plans to conduct a prisoner exchange "in the near future."
