In September 2025, jurors found the 59-year-old Ruth guilty on all counts, including attempted murder. After the verdict was announced, he attempted to harm himself by trying to stab himself in the neck with a pen, but federal agents stopped him.
According to the charges, Ruth planned to kill Trump with a sniper rifle at a golf club in Palm Beach on September 15, 2024. A Secret Service agent noticed his actions, and Ruth was apprehended while trying to flee. The president was not affected by any threats that day.

The defendant himself did not plead guilty and represented himself in court.
During the 2024 presidential campaign, there were two assassination attempts on Donald Trump. The first occurred on July 13 at a rally in Pennsylvania, where he was shot at several times, and one of the bullets grazed his ear. The shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was neutralized by a Secret Service sniper. The second assassination attempt, as the investigation revealed, was carried out by Ryan Ruth.
