“The youth are debunking the myth that Mongolians are afraid of water and cannot swim, as there is no ocean in Mongolia,” reports MiddleAsianNews.
At the international youth swimming competition, the Asian Open Schools Invitational Championships held in Bangkok, Thailand, Mongolian young athletes won 71 medals.
Margad Batzorigt, an 11-year-old swimmer from the "We Aquatics" club, improved his personal records and won one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals in individual events, as well as two silver and two bronze medals in relays. Athletes from the "Hangarid" club in Erdenet won one gold, four silver, and five bronze medals, while the "Aquanex" club received one gold and three bronze medals. The Sports Training Center under the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the Selenge aimak won two gold, two silver, and one bronze medal.
The "Goviin Uschid" ("Gobi Swimmers") club from Govi-Sumber showed excellent results at the AOSI (LCM) Championships, winning 7 gold, 5 silver, and 14 bronze medals. The "Bella Vista" club managed to reach the podium with two gold, four silver, and one bronze medal, while "Kings of Ocean" won seven medals of silver and bronze value.
The competition gathered over 1,100 participants from 22 countries. The Mongolian delegation consisted of 69 swimmers from eight different clubs. The main goal of this event was to provide schoolchildren from the Asian region with the opportunity to participate in international competitions, develop sports skills, strengthen team spirit, and promote cultural exchange. The championships were held in various swimming styles, including breaststroke, freestyle, butterfly, relays, and mixed team events.
