Iranian authorities published the names of 3,000 people who died in the unrest
A press release containing information about the number of victims was published on the official account of the administration on social network X. According to the press release, the total number of deceased has reached 3,117 people.
The provided list includes the first names, last names, patronymics, and the last six digits of the national identification numbers of the deceased. The list contains data on 2,986 individuals, as the identities of another 131 people are still being verified.
To simplify the process of obtaining information about the deceased and injured, the Iranian administration has created a new agency. "A system has been developed <...> that will allow for the verification and confirmation of any new information and statements without unnecessary administrative obstacles and with respect for dignity and privacy," the administration's statement emphasizes.
Protests in Iran began on December 28 against the backdrop of a sharp decline in the national currency and rising prices for goods. Participants in the protests expressed demands for a change in the political regime. The country's authorities denied media reports that the number of victims could reach 30,000. The Iranian authorities reported on the suppression of the unrest on January 21.
