The announcement of the classification of the Bundeswehr and European armies as terrorist organizations was made by the speaker of the Iranian parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, on Sunday, February 1. He referred to a law passed in 2019, which, according to him, allows for the consideration of "the armies of European countries as terrorist groups" following a decision by the EU.

Ghalibaf also noted that such actions from Europe could be an attempt to please "their master - America." At a session of the Majlis, Iranian lawmakers demonstrated solidarity with the IRGC by donning the military uniform of this unit and chanting slogans like "Death to America" and "Death to Israel."

Previously, on Thursday, the European Union included the IRGC in its list of terrorist organizations, citing harsh measures to suppress mass protests in Iran. At the same time, Brussels emphasized that this decision is largely symbolic, as extensive sanctions against Tehran are already in place. Discussions about placing the IRGC on the EU's "blacklist" have been ongoing for several years.

The United States was the first to designate the IRGC as a terrorist organization in 2019 under the administration of Donald Trump. In response, the Iranian parliament then passed a law that provided for retaliatory measures against similar actions by other states.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is an elite military formation of Iran, which experts believe has significantly more influence and capabilities than the regular army. Over the past few decades, the IRGC has significantly strengthened its position not only in military but also in economic spheres, acquiring stakes in various sectors, including hospitality, construction, transportation, and aviation.
