The head of EU diplomacy emphasized on the social network X that "the EU Foreign Minister made an important decision by declaring the IRGC a terrorist organization," adding that "a regime that kills thousands of its citizens is leading to its own demise."
Additionally, new sanctions against Iran were agreed upon at the meeting — this list includes 15 Iranian officials responsible for security and justice, as well as six legal entities.

Kallas noted that the sanctions target those individuals and organizations involved in the brutal suppression of protests that began late last year in response to citizens' dissatisfaction with the worsening economic situation.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi criticized the EU's decision, calling it "a significant strategic mistake." He stated on X that "some countries are trying to avoid a full-scale war in our region, but none of them are European. Europe, on the contrary, is fueling the conflict."
According to official data, more than 3,000 people died during the protests; however, Time magazine, citing two Health Ministry officials, reported 30,000 casualties. The exact number of deaths is difficult to ascertain due to the unstable internet situation in the country.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is an elite unit of the Iranian Armed Forces, tasked with protecting the principles and achievements of the Islamic Revolution from external and internal threats.

It is worth noting that the IRGC is already listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, Australia, and Canada.
