The company Amazon, one of the leading online retailers in the world, has announced its intention to cut about 16,000 jobs. This decision follows previous layoffs that occurred in October.
In the company's official statement, it says: "Today we are announcing the reduction of approximately 16,000 positions at Amazon. We are doing everything we can to support those affected by these changes."
In October of last year, Reuters reported that Amazon planned to conduct its largest round of layoffs in three years, during which up to 30,000 corporate employees could be let go. Shortly after that, the company announced the layoff of 14,000 employees.
In January, Reuters reported on a possible second round of layoffs, comparable in size to the first.
Founded in 1995, Amazon is now one of the largest players in the e-commerce market. The company operates not only in the USA but also in countries such as Canada, China, Brazil, Japan, and several European countries.
