Cooperation between Mongolia and Kazakhstan in the field of free economic zones and special zones is reaching a new strategic level.
During a working visit to Kazakhstan, a delegation led by the Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia, Gankhuyag Khassuur, met with Yersain Nagaspaev, the Minister of Industry and Construction of Kazakhstan.
Currently, there are 17 special economic zones operating in Kazakhstan, where 532 industrial projects have been implemented. These projects have generated a total income of 11.9 trillion tenge (approximately $25.3 billion) and 656.6 billion tenge (about $1.4 billion) in tax revenues for the country's budget. Additionally, the implementation of 337 new investment projects is planned, indicating the stability and effectiveness of the special economic zones.
At the meeting, the Kazakh side provided detailed information about the accumulated experience since 2019 in the development of free and special economic zones, including legal aspects, organizational structure, management and operation, as well as mechanisms for attracting investments and implementing public-private partnerships.
Kazakh representatives emphasized their openness to Mongolian investors and expressed their readiness to create stable and comfortable conditions for their operations in the special economic zones of the country and beyond.
The parties also discussed the possibility of adapting Kazakhstan's experience in reforming the policies of free and special economic zones for Mongolia.
Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia Gankhuyag Khassuur highlighted the importance of utilizing the opportunities of the Eurasian Economic Union to deepen cooperation and reduce non-tariff barriers for foreign trade within the framework of free and special economic zone projects.
He also proposed to establish cooperation in the areas of standardization, accreditation, and laboratory activities to improve mutual recognition and coordination of conformity assessment.
