In St. Petersburg, gastroenterologist Sergey Lopatkin from "SM-Clinic" announced the safe daily norm of coffee that can be consumed for health. This was reported by Lenta.ru.
According to the specialist's opinion, an adult is allowed to consume up to 400 milligrams of caffeine per day. This amount corresponds to approximately six espressos or two to three large cups of Americano or cappuccino. This recommendation is supported by both international and Russian medical organizations, including the World Health Organization and Rospotrebnadzor of the Russian Federation, Lopatkin clarified.
Lopatkin also noted that this dose is safe only for healthy individuals. In cases of insomnia, anxiety disorders, severe forms of hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, as well as gastritis and peptic ulcers, coffee consumption should be limited. For pregnant women, the safe dose of caffeine is half of 400 milligrams.
