U.S. President Donald Trump made an official proposal to Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to join a new Council for Peace dedicated to the situation in the Gaza Strip. This was reported by the press secretary of the Kazakh president, Ruslan Zheldibay, as stated by Tengrinews.
“It should not be hidden that President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has become one of the first world leaders to receive such an official invitation from Donald Trump. In response to this appeal, Tokayev sent a letter to the U.S. president expressing gratitude and agreeing to join the Council for Peace. The head of Kazakhstan confirmed his country's readiness to contribute to achieving sustainable peace in the Middle East, as well as to strengthening trust among states and global stability,” Zheldibay noted.
The creation of the Council for Peace in the Gaza Strip was announced by Trump on January 16, 2026. This initiative is part of the U.S. president's peace plan, which also includes the deployment of international forces in the region.
As reported by Bloomberg, the Trump administration requires countries wishing to take a permanent seat on the Council to contribute at least $1 billion. The draft charter states that the chair of the Council will be Trump himself, who will have the authority to make decisions regarding membership in the organization, as well as to approve or reject decisions made by a majority vote.
