The President of Syria, Ahmed al-Shara, announced the conclusion of an agreement with Mazlum Abdi, who heads the Kurdish "Syrian Democratic Forces" (SDF), as reported by Alaraby TV.

This agreement entails a ceasefire after government troops began advancing into areas controlled by the Kurds in northern and eastern Syria, including Hasakah, Deir ez-Zor, and Raqqa.

The agreement consists of 14 points, which include the transfer of all Kurdish fighters to the Syrian army, the provision of some high-profile positions in the armed forces for representatives of the SDF, the transfer of Kurdish oil fields to the government, and the integration of civil institutions in the Hasakah province into state structures.

According to this document, the Syrian government commits to not strike the SDF forces and representatives of local self-governance in the eastern part of the country.

Since the beginning of January 2025, hostilities have resumed between Kurdish formations and the Syrian army. By January 10, government forces had occupied the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiya areas. To date, the army is successfully advancing into Arabic-speaking regions in the northeast of the country that are under SDF control. As a result, the government has taken control of a significant part of the Deir ez-Zor province, a key area for oil extraction and grain production in Syria.
