The killed Cubans guarding Maduro were returned in small coffins
The farewell ceremony took place at the José Martí airfield, attended by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, former leader Raúl Castro, and Minister of the Interior Lázaro Alberto Álvarez.
During the ceremony, the Minister of the Interior noted: "Death will not break those who fall with a rifle in hand, defending the just cause."
After the event, the coffins of the deceased were driven through the streets under the protection of motorcyclists. Local residents gathered along the road to pay their respects. In footage published online, it is evident that the coffins are unusually small, which may indicate that they contain not whole bodies, but rather their remains.
According to reports, the Cuban servicemen died on January 3 as a result of a U.S. attack in Venezuela. As part of Operation "Absolute Resolve," American forces conducted a series of strikes, during which it is claimed that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was evacuated.
The President of Cuba stated that the soldiers were in Venezuela to carry out tasks requested by the local side. The information about casualties among Cuban servicemen was also confirmed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to the Venezuelan Ministry of the Interior, 100 people died during the attack.
