Mongolia to Deepen Cooperation with China in the Field of Responsible Mineral Extraction
During the negotiations, an agreement was also reached between the National Geological Administration of Mongolia and the Geological Administration of China on the development and signing of a Cooperation Agreement. This will be a continuation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in September 2025 during the "Mining Industry Week" in Mongolia. The main goal of the new agreement is to jointly conduct geological and geochemical studies in border areas, exchange experts and train personnel, as well as assist in the establishment of a geopark in Mongolia, based on Chinese experience.
It is expected that two pilot projects will be implemented with the China Geological Survey to initiate joint work in border areas, scheduled for 2026.
To enhance the qualifications of specialists in Mongolia's geological sector, Wuhan University and the State University of Mongolia have decided to launch an educational program "2+2". This initiative aims to develop the professional skills and competencies of students.
The parties also discussed opportunities for exchanging experiences in areas such as mine closure, land reclamation, and rational use of mineral resources, including the creation of unified approaches and standards.
In the context of combating illegal gold and fluorite mining, which negatively impacts the environment and undermines public trust, Minister Guan Zhiou proposed to intensify cooperation between the relevant authorities of the two countries to identify and suppress such violations.
Based on China's successful experience in modern mineral enrichment and processing technologies, Minister Damdinnyam proposed organizing a joint laboratory for testing low-grade ores (Au, Cu, Li, W, Zn, Fe, CaF₂, Pb, Sn). Additionally, he emphasized the importance of exploration and investment in the oil and gas sector as key areas of cooperation.
