Mongolia and China Confirmed Their Commitment to Increasing Trade Volume to $20 Billion

On January 13, 2026, the Prime Minister of Mongolia, L. Oyun-Erdene, met with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Mongolia, Ms. Shen Minjuan.

At the beginning of the meeting, Oyun-Erdene thanked the Premier of the State Council of China, Li Qiang, for his New Year wishes. He emphasized that Mongolia and China, as neighbors, strive to develop friendly relations and cooperation as key aspects of their foreign policy. According to him, cooperation between the countries is based on respect for independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as taking into account the interests of both sides.

The Prime Minister also mentioned that during a recent meeting with Li Qiang in Moscow in November 2025, an agreement was reached to align the 15th five-year plan for China's socio-economic development with a similar plan for Mongolia. This is expected to contribute to sustainable development, economic growth, and regional cooperation.

Oyun-Erdene noted that the intergovernmental projects being implemented are of great significance for the socio-economic progress of both countries. He confirmed Mongolia's intention to actively cooperate with China to achieve the goal set by the heads of state—to increase bilateral trade turnover to 20 billion US dollars by 2026. Both sides also expressed their readiness to facilitate transit transportation necessary for Mongolian goods to enter the markets of third countries.

For her part, Ambassador Shen Minjuan noted that the stable trade turnover between the two countries, despite the challenging conditions of the global economy, indicates a great potential for further development of economic cooperation. She confirmed her readiness to promote mutually beneficial cooperation between Mongolia and China.
