Donald Trump was "awarded" the Nobel Peace Prize

On January 15, a meeting took place at the White House between U.S. President Donald Trump and María Corina Machado, who is a leader of the Venezuelan opposition. This was reported by DW. The main topic of discussion was the future of Venezuela after Washington set its course to overthrow Nicolás Maduro.

After the meeting, Machado, who received the Nobel Peace Prize last year, told reporters that she "handed" Trump her medal in recognition of his significant contribution to the fight for freedom. She noted that the meeting was successful and that her supporters could count on support from Trump.

Donald Trump highly appreciated this gesture, writing on the social network Truth Social: "María handed me the Nobel Peace Prize for my work. It was a wonderful gesture of mutual respect. Thank you, María!"

However, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt emphasized during the meeting that Trump believes Machado currently does not have enough support to lead the country in the coming months.

The Norwegian Nobel Institute, responsible for awarding the prize, denied on January 9 the possibility of transferring or sharing the award, noting that once awarded, it remains with the laureate forever.

Previously, Machado had expressed a desire to transfer the prize to Trump or share it with him. This occurred after Trump rejected the idea of appointing Machado as the interim leader of Venezuela. According to The Washington Post, this happened because Machado did not agree to cede her Nobel Peace Prize to Trump.
