Volcano Merapi Erupts in Indonesia
On Wednesday morning, the Merapi volcano, located in the Indonesian province of West Sumatra, erupted, spewing a cloud of volcanic ash up to 1.6 kilometers above its crater, as reported by the ANTARA agency.
According to information from Ahmad Rifandi, a representative of the volcano's observation post, the eruption occurred at 09:36 local time (05:36 Moscow time). "We recorded an ash column about 1.6 kilometers high above the volcano's summit," he noted.
Currently, the danger level for Merapi is set at the second level. The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation of Indonesia (PVMBG) has issued recommendations prohibiting residents and tourists from being within a three-kilometer radius of the volcanic activity center.
Additionally, PVMBG warns of the possibility of cold lava flows.
