Ministry of Industry of Mongolia: the country meets all its needs for petroleum products through imports from the Russian Federation and China

Imports of petroleum products from Russia and China account for 95% of the total volume, with the remaining portion coming from China. As reported, as of January 7 of this year, 65,029 tons of fuel were imported through five border points. Importers have already confirmed orders for 287,860 tons of petroleum products for January 2026, including 136,470 tons of AI-92 gasoline, 148,090 tons of diesel fuel, and 3,300 tons of AI-95 gasoline.

At a recent meeting with fuel market participants, the ministry recommended not to raise prices on AI-92 gasoline and to maintain regular supplies from Russia. The participants agreed to develop a unified electronic system for accounting stocks and supplies of petroleum products, which will help reduce current costs.

The Deputy Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources of Mongolia, Begzsurengiin Enkhtuushin, noted that despite citizens' concerns on social media about a possible recurrence of fuel shortages, supplies from Russia are not decreasing. Agreements on stable supplies were reached during Vladimir Putin's visit to Ulaanbaatar in 2024.

He also emphasized that Russia is always ready to support Mongolia with fuel supplies and, according to the Russian-Mongolian agreement, the country is committed to supplying 1.8-1.9 million tons of petroleum products and 60,000 tons of aviation fuel annually on mutually beneficial terms.
