Media: Trump is considering options for new military strikes against Iran
According to one high-profile military official, if a decision is made, the command in the region will need to prepare American forces and strengthen positions for a possible response from Iran.
The Wall Street Journal also reports on preliminary discussions within the Trump administration. Among them was the discussion of a large-scale airstrike on Iranian military targets. However, as sources indicate, opinions on this matter are not unanimous, and at this time, no deployment of American troops or equipment for preparations for strikes has taken place.
Media sources emphasize that the current discussion is part of the standard military planning process, and there are currently no signs of an imminent attack on Iran.
In response to journalists' inquiries, the White House referred to a recent post by Trump on the social network Truth Social, where he noted: "Iran is seeking freedom, perhaps like never before. The U.S. is ready to help!!!"
Meanwhile, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that any attack by the U.S. would provoke retaliatory actions from Tehran against Israel and American military bases in the region, which would be considered "legitimate targets."
Against this backdrop, mass protests continue in Iran. Strikes began on December 28 after a sharp decline in the national currency and rising inflation, affecting almost the entire country. In some cities, control has shifted to the protesters, and authorities have begun a harsh crackdown on demonstrations, leading to an almost complete internet shutdown. According to unofficial data, the number of fatalities has exceeded 200, but official information is lacking.
