The daughter of Vladimir Putin has been appointed director of the medical institute at Moscow State University.
The creation of MNOI took place in November 2023 by decision of the academic council of MSU, incorporating the Faculty of Fundamental Medicine, the Center for Regenerative Medicine, and the university clinic. The first director of the institute was elected to be biologist Vsevolod Tkachuk, while Maria Vorontsova served as the deputy director for scientific work at that time.
Maria Vorontsova is a qualified endocrinologist. She graduated from the Faculty of Fundamental Medicine at MSU, then completed her residency and postgraduate studies at the Federal State Budgetary Institution "NMITs Endocrinology." In 2017, she defended her dissertation on the treatment of children with pituitary dwarfism. She has also held various positions in scientific and educational institutions, was a member of the council for the implementation of the Federal Scientific and Technical Program for the Development of Genetic Technologies, and served as the deputy dean of the Faculty of Fundamental Medicine at MSU.
Following the onset of military actions by Russia in Ukraine, Maria Vorontsova, like her sister Ekaterina Tikhonova, has come under sanctions from the European Union, the United States, and other countries.
The Anti-Corruption Foundation previously reported that Vorontsova received significant sums from the "New Medical Company" ("NOMEKO"), where she was a co-founder and a member of the board of directors. The publication "Project" noted that among the areas of work of this company are research in the field of genetic technologies and anti-aging medicine.
