Ukraine is initiating an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council following a Russian strike on the Lviv region from the "Oreshnik" missile system. This was reported by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andriy Sibiga.

According to the minister, this strike, carried out near the borders of the EU and NATO, poses a significant threat to the security of the European continent and represents a test for the transatlantic community. "We demand decisive actions in response to Russia's insane actions. We are informing the United States, our European partners, as well as all countries and international organizations about the details of this dangerous strike through diplomatic channels. We are also initiating international measures: a meeting of the UN Security Council, a Ukraine-NATO Council meeting, as well as retaliatory steps within the EU, the Council of Europe, and the OSCE," he added.

In addition, Sibiga refuted Moscow's accusations that Ukraine allegedly attacked Vladimir Putin's residence, which was cited as the basis for the nighttime strike with the "Oreshnik." He also called for strengthening anti-Russian sanctions.

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced the use of the "Oreshnik" on the morning of January 9, describing the strike as a response to the attack on the residence of the President of Russia. Targets were identified as facilities related to drone production and energy infrastructure supporting the operation of the Ukrainian defense complex.

The previous statement about Ukraine's attempt to attack Putin's residence with drones on the night of December 29 was made by the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergey Lavrov, who reported that 91 drones were involved in the attack, all of which were intercepted.
