Indian ultramarathon runner Sufiya Sufi achieved a historic milestone by setting a world record for women on the Manali - Leh route. She covered a distance of approximately 480 kilometers in 6 days, 12 hours, and 6 minutes, which was officially documented.
Sufi became the first woman to complete one of the most challenging routes in the Himalayas in such a short time. For comparison, the previous men's record for the same distance was about 120 hours, highlighting the uniqueness of her achievement.
During the race, the athlete crossed five mountain passes, reaching an altitude exceeding 8,000 meters. The Manali - Leh route is known for its extreme difficulty due to thin air, sharp temperature fluctuations, and challenging terrain.
The record was confirmed in 2023. Sufiya noted that the certificate of her achievement was issued after the results were verified by a special commission.
It is also worth mentioning that Sufiya Sufi has previously set both national and world records in long-distance running, including a run of over 6,000 kilometers on the "Golden Quadrilateral" route, which she completed in 110 days.
