One of the symbols of Kyrgyz football, Georgy Shevchenko, has passed away


With a heavy heart, the Football Association of Kyrgyzstan announced the passing of Georgy Shevchenko, a veteran of Kyrgyz football and honored master of sports of the USSR, who left this life at the age of 85.

From 1965 to 1971, Georgy Alekseevich played for the famous team "Alga," earning a reputation for his strategic thinking and reliable defensive play. His ability to organize team actions earned him the nickname "Richard Sorge" among his teammates. The first match of "Alga," in which Shevchenko participated, ended with a confident victory over "Pahktakor" with a score of 4:1, and he was one of the goal scorers.

The 1967 season was particularly significant for the team, as "Alga" was close to promotion to the top league. As a result of their successful performances, Georgy Shevchenko and his team were awarded the title of honored master of sports of the USSR.

After finishing his playing career in 1971, Georgy Shevchenko transitioned to coaching, where he proved to be a talented educator, training young footballers. Under his guidance, the team took third place in the USSR championship among youth.

Although Kyrgyz football has lost an outstanding figure, the contributions and achievements of Georgy Shevchenko will forever remain in the annals of sports history.
