Kazakhstan won gold in men's figure skating at the 2026 Olympics

At the start of the tournament, 21-year-old Shaidurov was in fifth place after the short program, but in the free skate, he decided to take a risk and complicated his program, which allowed him to deliver his best performance of the season. His total score was 291.58, which enabled him to maintain first place until the end of the competition.

His main competitors were unable to surpass his result:

Yuma Kagiyama won the silver medal with a score of 280.06

Shun Sato became the bronze medalist with a score of 274.90

Ilya Malinin, making several mistakes, finished in eighth place.

Shaidurov previously won silver at the 2025 World Championships and became the champion of the Four Continents in the same year. His victory was one of the most unexpected in the history of Olympic men's figure skating and brought Kazakhstan its historic gold.
