His total time for two runs was 2 minutes and 25.00 seconds, securing him first place. Swiss athlete Marco Odermatt took second place, finishing 0.58 seconds behind, while bronze went to another Swiss, Loic Meillard, who was 1.17 seconds behind.
Thus, Lucas Pinheiro Broten became the first athlete from South America to bring home a medal at the Winter Olympics.
It is worth noting that Lucas was born in Norway to a Norwegian father and a Brazilian mother and represented Norway in international competitions until 2023, where he won five races and became the slalom World Cup champion. However, after a conflict with the Norwegian federation regarding marketing rights, he left the sport. In 2024, the athlete returned, representing Brazil. In November 2025, he had already brought Brazil its first gold in the World Cup stages.
Earlier, it was reported that Kazakh figure skater Mikhail Shaidurov surprised everyone by winning the singles tournament at the 2026 Olympics, becoming the first in Kazakhstan's history to win a gold medal in figure skating.
