According to the information from the general director of the organizing committee, Andrea Varnier, the expenses for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy have reached over $5 billion. The initial budget estimate was $1.3 billion, but during the preparation process, this amount increased to $1.7 billion.
An additional approximately $3.5 billion has been allocated for the construction and modernization of sports infrastructure, funded by state resources.
Varnier emphasized that the organizers faced a number of difficulties, and not all facilities were completed on time. For example, the hockey stadium in Santa Giulia and the bobsleigh and luge center in Cortina are in the final stages of construction. New sports facilities are being created despite the recommendations from the International Olympic Committee to use existing facilities in neighboring countries.
Nevertheless, the organizers are actively preparing for the opening ceremony scheduled for Friday, working under tight deadlines.
It was also reported that Kazakhstan has allocated 13.3 billion tenge for preparations for the Olympic Games.
The XXV Winter Olympic Games will take place from February 6 to 22, 2026.
