Islam Nurbekov is actively engaged in boxing.

In an interview with a Turmush correspondent, he shared that his passion for sports began in the 2nd grade, and the main source of inspiration for him was his father's support.

Islam studied at A. Karymshakov Secondary School until the 7th grade, and then continued his education at a sports school in Bishkek.

“I was born in 2010, and this May I will turn 16. I am the oldest of four children in the family. In the 2nd grade, I started training in boxing in an old gym during my free time from studies. My first coach, Kuban Egebayev, still supports me at tournaments. In the 6th grade, I became more determined and began participating in regional, national, and international competitions. As a result, starting from the 8th grade, I transferred to the sports school in Bishkek, where I continue to study and compete successfully,” he said.

Islam emphasizes that his father's influence was immense, and he dreams of becoming a world champion.

“Three years ago, my father died in a car accident. He always told me, ‘You can become a strong boxer, you must raise the flag of Kyrgyzstan and become a world champion.’ These words became my motivation, and I decided to participate in competitions in Karakol, Jalal-Abad, Osh, and I also went to tournaments in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Even when my parents had no money left, they still supported me by covering my travel and accommodation expenses,” Islam added.

“My first coach is always nearby; he understands my dreams and supports me morally. When I was transitioning to the 8th grade and decided to change schools, my mom fully supported me,” he noted.

Islam is also interested in geometry and algebra in his studies.

“In my free time, I try to study Russian and English. But we have almost no weekends, as we constantly train and do physical preparation in the mountains. At the sports school, there are more training sessions, and we do more exercises,” he added.

Sometimes Munarbek Agha, a participant in the world championship, comes to their sports school and shares his experience with them. Perhaps thanks to this, at the recent national tournament in the 48 kg weight category, I defeated all my opponents and earned a spot at the Asian Championship, which will take place in May. At that moment, I remembered my father's words, and it gave me strength,” Islam emphasized.

“I dream of becoming a world champion, participating in the Olympic Games, and bringing glory to my country,” he concluded.
