40 Athletes from Central Asian Countries to Participate in the 2026 Winter Olympics

At the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, which will take place in Italy, 40 athletes from Central Asia will represent their countries.

Kazakhstan stands out among other countries, sending 36 athletes. Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan will each be represented by two athletes.

Tajikistan, unfortunately, will not be able to send its participants to these Games for the third consecutive year.

As for Turkmenistan, this country has never participated in the Winter Olympic Games.

It should be noted that the Kyrgyzstan team includes Timur Shakirov (alpine skiing), trained by Igor Borisov, and Artur Saparbekov (cross-country skiing), who competes under the guidance of Alexander Levdansky.

Artur Saparbekov will participate in the classic style sprint and the 10-kilometer freestyle race, with the cross-country skiing competitions taking place in Val di Fiemme.

Timur Shakirov is scheduled to compete in the giant slalom and slalom events, which will be held at the Bormio ski resort.

The XXV Winter Olympic Games will take place from February 6 to 22, 2026, and the Winter Paralympic Games will be held from March 6 to 15.

A total of 2,871 athletes from 93 countries will participate in the competitions, and 116 sets of medals will be contested in 16 disciplines.
