Fans of 'Brugge' detained at the match with 'Kairat'

On January 20, at the "Astana Arena" stadium in the capital of Kazakhstan, three foreign fans were detained by the police during the Champions League match between "Kairat" and "Brugge," as reported by Tengrinews.kz, citing information from the Astana police department.

Law enforcement intervened due to unacceptable behavior of the fans in the stands. Shortly after the game ended, videos appeared on social media showing "Brugge" fans dressed in revealing swimsuits reminiscent of the character Borat from Sasha Baron Cohen's film. This was likely an attempt at provocation or mockery of the Kazakh audience.

According to the police statement, the detainees were taken to the department for further investigation. Administrative proceedings were initiated against them for appearing in a public place in a state of alcohol intoxication and petty hooliganism.

The police added that the case materials have already been sent to court for a decision. Until the case is heard, the violators were placed in a temporary detention room.

It is worth noting that the match "Kairat" — "Brugge" ended with a score of 4:1 in favor of the Belgian team. Despite the sporting outcome, the incident with the fans sparked widespread public resonance on social media.
