In Tokmok, the staffing shortage and infrastructure issues of the police were discussed.
This was reported by a Turmush correspondent.
At the meeting, Tokmok city council deputy Cholpon Sydykova raised several important issues. She reminded attendees about the allocation of land for the construction of a new building for the city internal affairs service and inquired about the readiness of the project, as well as the timelines for the start and completion of construction. The questions also concerned the availability of a gym and cafeteria in the new building.
Additionally, Sydykova addressed the problem of the reduction in the number of police officers: previously there were 132, but now only 120 remain. She asked why this is happening and why the drug enforcement department is not showing activity. According to her, the city's population is approximately 75,000, yet there is only one district inspector for this number of residents.
The deputy also noted that the patrol and post service (PPS) is subordinate to regional authorities and does not always interact with local bodies, which sometimes leads to confusion. There are only 14 employees working in the internal affairs department, which is insufficient for ensuring safety, especially considering the increase in traffic accidents and the upcoming tourist season.
Lastly, she mentioned that a residential building for police officers was constructed in 2017; however, due to issues with land documentation, the work on its registration has not yet been completed.
