Every year, up to 200 people die from tuberculosis in Kyrgyzstan
Every year, more than 3,800 new cases of the disease are recorded in the country, leading to 200 deaths.
Gulbara Ishenapysova emphasized: “This indicates a sanitary and epidemiological imbalance concerning this disease. Our goal is to eliminate this problem. However, there are difficulties with early detection, as well as cases where patients discontinue treatment for various reasons. Additionally, there are drug-resistant forms of the disease. Migration, poverty, and other social factors play an important role in this.”
She also noted that the Ministry of Health has developed an action plan as part of the tuberculosis awareness month. This process will involve not only medical workers but also students, youth, public organizations, and educational institutions.
It was previously reported that according to preliminary data, in 2025, the incidence rate will be 52.1 cases per 100,000 population, and the mortality rate will be 2.1 cases per 100,000 population.
The highest rates of tuberculosis morbidity and mortality in Kyrgyzstan were recorded in 2001, when the incidence reached 168 cases per 100,000 population, and mortality was 27 cases per 100,000 population.
However, compared to 2001, the tuberculosis morbidity rate has decreased by almost three times. Since 1996, five tuberculosis control programs have been implemented in the country.
Every year on March 24, World Tuberculosis Day is celebrated.
