In the history of Tokmok, this happened only once. Archive photographs
This took place on July 9, 2022, when the prayer for Kurban Eid was held not in mosques, but in the Sultan Ibraimov Square.
The imam of Tokmok, Imirjan Kasymov, reported that on that day between 8,000 to 9,000 believers gathered in the square. “Previously, Eid prayers always took place in mosques. This time we held it in the square, which became a significant event,” he noted.
Despite the presence of 20 active mosques in the city, holding the festive prayer in the main square remains a unique occurrence. According to local residents, since that summer of 2022, Eid prayers have been held again in mosques, and a large gathering in the central square has not been repeated.
Many city dwellers consider that event an important symbol of unity, as the opportunity to gather thousands in one place created an atmosphere of solidarity.
