A unique tulip from Kyrgyzstan, known as Tulipa anadroma, has reached the finals of a prestigious competition aimed at preserving plant and animal species that are at risk of extinction. This achievement was made possible thanks to the experts from the Indianapolis Zoo in the USA, as reported by the Ministry of Nature of the Republic.
The initiative to participate in the competition was organized by a team of wild tulip specialists who are part of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN Species Survival Commission Wild Tulip Specialist Group).
The voting will take place in several stages, namely:
- First round: from March 16 to 19
- Second round: from March 20 to 23
- Third round: from March 24 to 26
- Fourth round: from March 27 to 29
- Superfinal: from March 30 to April 3, 2026
If the conservation project for this rare species wins, it will receive the necessary financial support.
According to the agency, this tulip is threatened with extinction due to factors such as flower picking by tourists and locals, livestock grazing, as well as the digging up and sale of bulbs.
