Since the beginning of 2024, 40 kidney transplants have been performed on a budgetary basis in Kyrgyzstan. This was reported by Health Minister Damir Osmonov at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh committee on labor, health, social security, and women's affairs.

According to him, previously patients were forced to seek transplantation in other countries. However, thanks to government support, it has now become possible to perform operations free of charge.

Currently, according to the Ministry of Health, about 200 people are on the waiting list for kidney transplants, many of whom suffer from stage five chronic kidney disease.

At the same time, Damir Osmonov noted that not all those in need can receive the operation—some patients have hepatitis, while others face a lack of compatible donors.
Transplants in the country are carried out at the National Center for Maternal and Child Health, the Kyrgyz-Turkish Friendship Hospital, and the clinic of Osh State University.

As for hemodialysis, there are currently no patients on the waiting list. Since 2021, the program has been fully funded from the state budget at the initiative of the president.

Damir Osmonov also highlighted the main causes of chronic kidney diseases: diabetes, glomerulonephritis, and high blood pressure.

One of the deputies suggested that the ministry intensify its informational work, including the creation and dissemination of videos on the prevention of kidney diseases and hepatitis.
