"Buildings were constructed, citing that 'the general said': The new mayor of Manas compared the situation in the city to Afghanistan"
As reported by Turmush correspondent, the main topics of discussion at the meeting were measures to protect and support entrepreneurs, as well as the prevention of domestic violence. The participants' attention focused on the work of local authorities in these areas.
Discussing the issue of domestic violence, the presidential envoy in the region, Tilek Tekebayev, inquired with Manas Mayor Abdupati Matkalikov about the measures being taken. The mayor admitted that he had not prepared a report, citing a heavy workload: "We have a lot of work, and unfortunately, none of the high-rise buildings have the necessary documents. I receive daily appeals from 200-300 people and face numerous complaints. I have just started my work," noted Matkalikov.
The presidential representative also provided data indicating an increase in serious crimes in the city compared to 2024, with 64 more cases, including an increase in the number of rapes.
The regional head firmly reminded the mayor of his responsibilities, calling for more prompt preparation for such issues: "Since you became mayor, you must be ready to work and not excuse yourself by saying you have just started. The akim of the Suzak district, appointed just yesterday, has already presented a report on the situation; you should take note of this," emphasized Tekebayev.
The mayor of Manas compared the situation in the city to Afghanistan, pointing out numerous offenses and a lack of order: "We really have many complaints and violations. I feel like I have landed in Afghanistan. The constructed buildings lack documents. The builders refer to the general's instructions. I can't keep up with the residents' complaints," he said.
As previously reported, Turmush informed on February 23, 2026, about the appointment of Abdupati Joroevich Matkalikov as the mayor of Manas. This decision was made by President Sadyr Japarov based on Article 71 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the law "On Local State Administration and Local Self-Government Bodies."
Abdupati Matkalikov, born on January 1, 1964, in the village of Jai-Terek in the Bazar-Korgon district of the Jalal-Abad region, has higher education, having graduated from the Frunze Polytechnic Institute with a degree in mechanical engineering.
His work experience spans various fields: from service in the Soviet Army to work in housing and communal services and leadership positions in various organizations. In 2020 and 2021, he ran for the Jogorku Kenesh from the "Mekenchil" party and has five children.
Previously, Ormokov Ernisbek Abdijalilovich was relieved of his duties as mayor of Manas by presidential decree, a position he held since 2020.
