In Bishkek and the Chui region, there has been a trend of increasing egg prices over the past two months.

Some sellers find it difficult to explain the reasons for this rise, while store owners note a sharp reduction in supplies from poultry farms.

A regional correspondent contacted the food security department of the Ministry of Agriculture for comments.

Experts claim that there are no diseases on poultry farms, and regular inspections confirm this. The main reason for the price increase is the seasonal decline in egg production: at this time of year, hens begin to lay eggs less actively, which is natural, as they cannot produce eggs year-round.

Additionally, last year, egg prices were too low, leading to overproduction in Kyrgyzstan. As a result, some poultry farms were forced to reduce their flock, and now we are witnessing the consequences of this decision.

Furthermore, a significant portion of laying hens has reached the age when they are sent for meat, while new chicks are just starting to grow. Once they reach the laying period, price stabilization for eggs is expected. According to the association, this situation may last about a month and a half, after which the market will recover. Overall, Kyrgyzstan is capable of covering 80% of its egg needs. Prices in this market are subject to cyclical fluctuations, which is a normal phenomenon.

We contacted the antimonopoly authority regarding possible artificial price inflation. The antimonopoly service is conducting an investigation to determine the reasons for the price increase. In turn, the government is considering measures, including temporary imports and possible support for poultry farms. It is worth noting that the number of laying hens remains stable, although some have been sent for slaughter. Currently, the process of renewing the flock is underway.

According to our data, the wholesale price of eggs fluctuates between 10–12 soms.
