Land may be seized in case of intentional degradation of soil quality
A new package of amendments has been presented in Kyrgyzstan concerning the Civil and Land Codes, as well as the Code of Offenses. These changes are designed to protect the country's land fund and prevent the inappropriate development of agricultural lands.
According to the proposed bill, agricultural lands will be recognized as having exceptional value and as the foundation of national security.
One of the main changes will be the doubling of compensation for landowners who decide to convert particularly valuable plots for commercial use. Additionally, a mechanism for land seizure from owners will be established if intentional degradation of soil quality is found with the aim of changing its category.
Fines have been introduced for violations of land use norms: 3,000 soms for individuals and 13,000 soms for legal entities.
This initiative aims to prevent the degradation of arable land and ensure food security in the country.
