Today, March 9, a meeting of the committee on science, education, innovative development and information technologies, culture, sports, and youth affairs took place, during which amendments to the law on broadcasting were discussed.

As Marat Tagaev explained, the changes are purely technical. He noted that a new media law was adopted last year, which was signed by the president, and the new amendments aim to align the existing broadcasting law with the latest changes.

However, Seyid Atambaev pointed out an important aspect: Article 45 of the current law provides for liability for violations, but there is no provision protecting journalists. Article 5 also clarifies the responsibility for disseminating information obtained from official press releases. "Will this not lead to pressure on the media?" the deputy questioned.

Tagaev responded that the mentioned provisions have existed for a long time, and the amendments merely harmonize the laws.

"There may be conflicts in the titles of the codes, but we will make the necessary editorial changes," he added.

Atambaev emphasized that the law should both protect society from misinformation and safeguard the media from pressure. He expressed his intention to prepare his proposals for the bill for the second reading.
