Expensive sheep were attacked by stray dogs in the Sokuluk district
According to the villagers, the number of stray animals in the area has significantly increased. As a result of another raid on a private household, expensive Arachshan breed sheep were harmed. "There are now a lot of stray dogs in Sokuluk. They have killed Arachshan sheep. The incident occurred in the past weeks. Now we are afraid that with the start of the school year, the dogs may begin to attack children," local residents say.
At the moment, livestock owners are urging local authorities to take measures to regulate the population of stray animals to prevent possible tragedies.
In April 2021, the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, and Regional Development registered a new Kyrgyz meat-fat breed of sheep called "Arachshan".
The differences of the "Arachshan" breed of sheep from other breeds:
- The Kyrgyz meat-fat breed "Arachshan" was developed between 1970 and 2021 in the farms of the Kyrgyz Republic. The breed was created using rams of the Gissar breed, imported from Tajikistan in 1977, which were crossed with local coarse-wool ewes. Second-generation animals from this crossbreeding, meeting the requirements of the desired type, were bred "in themselves".
- The Kyrgyz meat-fat breed "Arachshan" has excellent meat-fat qualities, is of large size, has a fat tail, high growth and development energy, and is highly adapted to being kept in high mountain and valley steppes.
- Sheep of the Kyrgyz meat-fat breed "Arachshan" have a compact body, satisfactory exterior, strong constitution, and a light yet sturdy skeleton.
- Rams and ewes are polled.
- The live weight of 7-8 month old lambs is 48–61 kg, one-year-old young stock is 60-78 kg, and adult rams weigh 109-177 kg.
- Four genealogical lines have been formed.
In total, there are 5,832 sheep of this breed in the republic. The approximate cost of a lamb is 1,000 dollars, and sheep are valued at 5,000 dollars.
