At the market in Sokuluk, a sheep with a lamb was sold for 700,000 soms
Local farmers reported this to a Turmush correspondent.
According to them, more and more sheep and rams of the Arashan breed have been arriving at the market.
“Previously, we witnessed elite purebred horses, cows, and bulls being sold for hundreds of thousands of soms or dollars. And now, sheep at the market are being valued in dollars and in hundreds of thousands of soms. Of course, there are also cheaper farm sheep — their price ranges from 6,000 to 15,000 soms. Good, well-fed farm sheep cost between 12,000 and 25,000 soms.
At the same time, sheep that are called Arashans but do not fully meet the standards are valued at over 25,000 soms.
Average Arashans cost between 40,000 and 100,000 soms.
And pedigree Arashans at the market are valued at over 3,000 dollars,” local farmers said.
In April 2021, the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Regional Development registered a new Kyrgyz meat-fat breed of sheep called “Arashan.”
The differences of the “Arashan” breed of sheep from other breeds:
- The Kyrgyz meat-fat breed “Arashan” was developed between 1970 and 2021 in the farms of the Kyrgyz Republic. The breed was created using breeding rams of the Gissar breed, imported from Tajikistan in 1977, which were crossed with local coarse-wool ewes. Second-generation animals from the absorbing crossbreeding that met the desired type requirements were bred “in themselves.”
- The Kyrgyz meat-fat breed “Arashan” has excellent meat-fat qualities, is of large size, has a fat tail, high growth and development energy, and is highly adapted to being kept in high mountain and valley steppes.
- Sheep of the Kyrgyz meat-fat breed “Arashan” have a compact body, satisfactory exterior, strong constitution, and a light and sturdy skeleton.
- Rams and ewes are polled.
- The live weight of 7-8 month-old lambs is 48–61 kg, yearling young stock is 60-78 kg, and adult rams weigh 109-177 kg.
- Four genealogical lines have been formed.
In total, there are 5,832 sheep of this breed in the republic. The approximate cost of a lamb is 1,000 dollars, and for sheep, it is 5,000 dollars.
