"Chuy Region was the first in the KR to identify poachers using camera traps"

During research aimed at studying parasites, a sanitary culling of pheasants and chukars was organized. These activities are aimed at studying the epizootic situation among wild animals and preventing infectious diseases.

Tilek Salikov, head of the Chuy Regional Department of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, stated in an interview with VB.KG that such activities are conducted regularly. “We carry out such actions on a permanent basis. There are over a thousand enterprises operating in the Chuy region that pay fees for environmental impact. The collected funds are directed towards nature conservation. In 2025, we collected 142 million soms, and in 2024 - 128 million. These funds are accumulated in a special account for environmental projects.

Among our initiatives are the purchase of garbage trucks, improvement of landfills, and tree planting as part of the “Zhashyl Muras” campaign. We also strive to preserve and increase the population of wild animals and support the region's ecosystem.

In collaboration with the National Academy of Sciences, we conduct sanitary culling of certain birds and send them for analysis to identify diseases or parasites. If any are found, biotechnical measures are implemented, such as adding medications to feed to improve the condition of chukar and pheasant populations.

The work covers not only birds. During the winter period, supplementary feeding of mountain goats is organized using hay and salt, and in spring, a count of wild animal populations is conducted.

There are four hunting societies in the region with which we actively collaborate, distributing quotas for sport hunting among enthusiasts.

Special attention is paid to combating poaching. In 2025, 125 cases of illegal hunting were recorded, with fines exceeding 1 million soms.

Camera traps were set up in the Ak-Suu gorge, which captured three individuals engaged in the illegal shooting of deer. We became the first in Kyrgyzstan to use such devices to prove violations. Based on the obtained materials, protocols were drawn up and sent to the Moscow District Police Department of the Chuy region. A criminal case was initiated, the violators were detained, and by court decision, they were fined 600,000 soms,” Salikov added.
