In the Osh region, activists from public organizations are demanding a thorough and independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of 21-year-old Aizhanil Alikaraeva. Her body was discovered on February 19 in the Nookat district. This was reported by Gulgaky Mamasalieva, head of the public organization "Interbilim-Osh."

According to Mamasalieva, activists have already sent an open appeal to the Attorney General, the Minister of Internal Affairs, and the Ombudsman. In this document, they emphasize that the public is extremely outraged that, despite suspicions of murder, Aizhanil's husband remains at large, while his family insists on the version of suicide.
“The suicide version raises serious doubts, as a day before the tragedy, Aizhanil reached out to her mother for help. In SMS and phone conversations, she openly reported on the violence from her husband and asked to be taken away from the 'family hell.' These words cannot belong to someone who decided to take their own life; this was a cry for help,” the human rights defenders state.
Activists also highlight that the situation regarding women's rights in Kyrgyzstan has reached a critical point.

“In the first nine months of 2025, over 16,000 reports of violence and 31 cases of murder in domestic settings were registered. At the same time, the number of issued protection orders increased by 20 percent, reaching nearly 13,000, yet only 456 criminal cases were initiated. These figures indicate the ineffectiveness of state protection measures,” the appeal states.

In light of the above, the "Regional Civil Forum" network calls on the Attorney General to take personal control of this case, to eliminate pressure on the investigation, and to hold an open briefing by the Internal Affairs Department of the Osh region within 48 hours. Activists also insist on the complete independence of the forensic examination and the organization of live broadcasts of court hearings on social media and television to ensure maximum transparency of the process.

Human rights defenders demand clear answers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs regarding what measures are being taken to genuinely reduce violence and how many more women must die before the safety of citizens becomes an absolute priority for the state.

It is worth noting that in the Nookat district of the Osh region, a 21-year-old woman was found hanged in the shed of her home. The report of this incident was received by the police on February 20. Local media report that the girl got married a year ago and was pregnant. According to her relatives, she repeatedly complained about violence from her husband. Aizhanil's family does not believe in the suicide version and demands a full investigation.
