In Bishkek, they discussed what hinders women in Kyrgyzstan from building a career
In Bishkek, in anticipation of International Women's Day, an important meeting was held as part of the global initiative Ring the Bell for Gender Equality, dedicated to the issues faced by women in Kyrgyzstan. The event was organized by the Kyrgyz Stock Exchange in collaboration with UN Women and gathered participants from the public sector, the judiciary, the financial sphere, and international organizations.
The discussion in 2026 focused on women's access to justice, which is fundamental for the country's economic well-being. Panel discussion participants also touched on important topics such as economic, social, and psychological violence, issues related to alimony, and wage inequality. Experts emphasized that as long as women have to fight for their basic rights and survive after divorces, they cannot fully realize their potential in their careers. Creating a safe environment where women can expect protection from violence and equal pay for their work was recognized as a key factor for the successful development of Kyrgyzstan's economy.
Additionally, participants discussed the phenomenon of the "second shift," where women, while working full-time, also take on a large portion of unpaid domestic work and childcare. Speakers noted that this invisible burden significantly hinders women's professional growth and their ability to rest and self-actualize.
The panel discussion included representatives from the Office of the Ombudsman, FC "Senti," JSC "Eldik Bank," JSC "Guarantee Fund," JSC MFC "Entrepreneurship Development Fund," and ESG CA.
The event was held under the slogan "Rights. Justice. Action. For all women and girls."
At the conclusion of the event, a ceremonial gong strike took place, along with the official signing of commitments to the principles of women's empowerment, conducted by the chairperson of UN Women in Kyrgyzstan, Said Sadik, and the chairwoman of the board of JSC "Eldik Bank," Aichurek Jakypova.
