“We really use clean water with enormous waste”
Daiyrbek Orunbekov, head of the information policy service of the President's Administration, expressed his support for the initiative of the deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh, Tabyldy Murtbekov, to increase water supply tariffs.
Orunbekov believes that the deputy is raising an important issue.
“Let’s be honest: we really consume clean water without thinking about its costs. This happens because it is practically free. I often observe people washing their faces and leaving the water running while just looking in the mirror. You probably notice this every day too. During shaving, few people turn off the tap — this is a common waste that occurs in every household,” he noted.
Part of the population uses drinking water for watering gardens and carrying out household chores. At the same time, there are countries in the world where people need even a small amount of water. “We know that in the future, the water issue may become one of the global problems,” he added.
Orunbekov also emphasized that the current expenses for maintaining water systems are not justified.
“Before criticizing the deputy who raised the issue of tariffs, we all should learn to use water more economically. Our ancestors said: ‘Whoever respects water will be great, and whoever does not value it will be humiliated,’” he concluded.
Let us remind you that Tabyldy Murtbekov proposed to increase the tariffs for drinking water in Kyrgyzstan to 36.99 soms. The deputy characterized this increase as “insignificant.”
