Increase in water tariffs. Dayirbek Orunbekov supported the parliamentary initiative
In his view, the deputy addresses important aspects. He noted: “We must acknowledge that we are using clean water irrationally, as its cost is practically negligible. I often observe people leaving the water running while washing their faces and simply looking in the mirror. This happens everywhere. During shaving, almost no one turns off the tap — this is daily wastefulness that can be seen in every home.”
Moreover, many use drinking water for watering gardens and other household needs. At the same time, there are countries in the world where people experience a severe shortage of even the smallest amount of water. Daiyrbek Orunbekov emphasized that in the future, the problem with water resources could become critical.
He also added that even if we do not take these aspects into account, the costs of maintaining the clean water system, which should serve every household, are not currently covered.
“Before criticizing the deputy who raised the issue of tariffs, we all should learn to use water sparingly. Our ancestors wisely said: ‘Whoever values water will be great, and whoever disrespects it will be humiliated,’” he concluded.
For reference, MP Tabyldy Muratbekov proposed to increase tariffs on drinking water in Kyrgyzstan. According to his calculations, the average cost per cubic meter may rise by 14.38 soms, leading to a new price of 36.99 soms.
